Some time ago, in a small office at the Henri Poincare Institute, I met Mrs. Tonnelat. We used to discuss our views on fields and sources within the frame of classical relativistic theory. At the time, it did not enter my mind that I would some day have the privilege of presenting the following book. Its author was already exhibiting a highly synthesizing mind and an intellectual honesty which make this book.
