A method of form description is a procedure for selecting and presenting information about the characteristic way in which an object occupies space. Methods of form description are, in practice, always chosen for a particular purpose, in a particular problem context. The fundamental issue involved in the choice of a method of form description is the identification of which information should be included as relevant to the problem, and what manner of presentation of that information best serves the process of solution of the problem.
