Whatever the current paean, the "New Math," "back-to-basics," "basic skills," or "problem solving," a major concern of educators, teachers, administrators, parents, and employers is that students, at all levels, acquire and retain cognitive mathematics skills that will enable them to be successful citizens, consumers, and employees. Not incidentally, each of these groups also hopes that students will enjoy the mathematics they learn, will be motivated to learn it, and will be enthusiastic about learning additional mathematics. Mathematics instructional games would seem to be one way to satisfy these desires in one instructional procedure.
