Название: Quantization of generally covariant field theories

Автор: Bergmann P.G.

Аннотация:

Under the leadership of Professor Peter O. Bergmanri, an extensive and influential research group on gravitational theory has existed at Syracuse University. In addition to the usual number of graduate students associated with Prof. Bergmann, a varying number of senior people, drawn from other institutions on a temporary basis, have been in residence with and taken part in the activities of the group. The number of associates has fluctuated from about six to twelve and has included many of the people who have made important contributions to recent developments in gravitational theory. The papers reproduced here are not all of the publications of the Syracuse group, but represent those which were prepared either wholly or in part with the help of Contract AF 33(6l6)-6867 which is monitored by the Aeronautical Research Laboratories. Although there are some gaps, the papers are sufficiently representative to show the line of research on classical gravitational radiation theory, problems connected with quantization of the gravitational field, conservation laws, and questions relating to possible boundary conditions which may limit the behavior of the gravitational field. In his Final Report, Professor Bergmann has summarized the work of the group, saying a few words about each of the people connected with the program. This summary has been edited and is being presented as a preface to the papers themselves. The Aeronautical Research Laboratories take full responsibility for any distortion of Prof. Bergmann's remarks which may result from the editing.
