The present book is an attempt to offer a systematic introduction to the ideas and techniques that form the core of this new area of mathematical physics. It is intended to be readable either as a monograph or a textbook. The level of the presentation has been determined by the criterion that it should be explicit enough to be within reach of graduate students in mathematics or physics and advanced enough to sustain their respective interests.
