This volume contains the proceedings of the International Conference on Mathematical Physics held at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), August 20-26, 1979. This conference continued the tradition of the meetings held in Moscow (1972), in Warsaw (1974), in Kyoto (1975), and in Rome (1977). The next conference is scheduled for the summer of 1981 in Berlin.
