The Xlth Internationa 1 Colloquium on Group Theoretical Methods in Physics was held at Bogazici University in Istanbul from August 23 to 28, 1982. Like the previous conferences in this series, it brought together physicists, mathematicians and chemists interested in group structures, group representat ions and their use in the description and understanding of natural phenomena.
The colloquium was divided into nine sessions. Each session began with one or two review talks and continued with short presentations of research results, supplemented in some cases by posters. Following the established pattern, the talks covered most areas of physics, a novelt} being the addition of sessions on completely integrable systems and on statistical mechanics.
