This book appears exactly half a century after the year (1908) in which set theory, gravely shaken by the antinomies in its original, naive form as created by Cantor, underwent a thorough reconstruction
in the hands of Brouwer, Russell, and Zermelo. The present book is mainly dedicated to the description of these widely different and independently developed approaches, in all their ramifications and recent rafifirochement.
