The first Bfl09 prototype made its first flight on 28 May 1935 at the hands of BFW Chiefpilot Hans-Dietrich Knoetzsch. After the much publicised landing accident of Bfl09-Vl at the RLM's testing centre at Rechlin, Knoetzsch left the Messerschmitt firm. So when the BfllO prototype was ready for its first flight the honour of making it fell to Dr Ing Hermann Wurster who had been Chief Test Pilot of BFW since 1 Januaiy 1936. This first flight of Bf 110 VI (WNr 868. civil registration D-AHOA) took place on 12 May 1936 at Augsburg airfield almost a year after that of ВИ09 VI.
