Gunners took on their role facing appalling conditions, isolation, extreme hazard, and a loss rate high enough to discourage hopes of survival. That so many young men stuck to their guns and rose to the challenges of their dangerous job is a tribute to their spirit. Their courage was extraordinary. They deserve to have their names remembered.
