The Nakajima Ki-84 "Hayate" was one of the best fighters of the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force during the World War II and, until present day, it undoubtedly remains one of the most famous. These facts put "Hayate" in one Sine with such famed aircraft as the Messerschmitt Bf 109, Supermarine "Spitfire". North American P-51 "Mustang" or Mitsubishi A6M "Zero". Nevertheless, no comprehensive monograph has been dedicated to the Ki-84 in Poland so far, and the worldwide literature on the subject is far from abundant. The aircraft is duly mentioned in almost every book on Japanese aircraft and in numerous aviation magazines. However, truly noteworthy publications on the Ki-84 are but a few - with the exception of Japan, where several more or less comprehensive monographic studies on the Ki-84 were published during the course of many years. Nonetheless, in case of those publications - although purchasing them is no longer a problem - the language barrier remains a serious obstacle. All the more it is the author's pleasure to herewith recommend to the Polish readers, in his and the publisher's name, this very publication. I sincerely hope that Japanese aviation enthusiasts and modellers alike will find this monograph informative, while many others will discover (or re-discover) this remarkably interesting aircraft.
