The second edition of the author's classic book, MECHANICS OF CONTINUA, incorporates corrections to the text, contains some new, useful materials on the nonlinear theory, additional references and a new chapter (Chapter 10) on electrodynamics of deformable and fluent bodies. Nonlinear and linear theories of anisotropic electromagnetic elastic solids, and viscous fluids are developed rigorously and illustrated by several solutions. Much of the material is new in content and composition and appears for the first time in one place. The book can be used as a graduate text or for self-study. The method of development of cohesive mathematical theories of continua and summaries of basic equations of diverse fields of continuum physics with illustrative solutions make this book a major reference ideal for scientific, technical and educational libraries as well as a valuable addition to the library of any scientist.
