This LNCS volume contains a selection of papers presented at the 1996 International Workshop on the Implementation of Functional Languages which took place in Bonn-Bad-Godesberg, Germany, Sept. 16-18, 1996. It was the 8th in a series of workshops of which the others were held in Nijmegen (The Netherlands) in 1989 and 1990, in Southampton (UK) in 1991, in Aachen (Germany) in 1992, again in Nijmegen in 1993, in Norwich (UK) in 1994, and in Bastad (Sweden) in 1995.
