This work assesses the development, properties, processing, and characteristics of thin-film transistors (TFTs). In particular, the electrical requirements of TFTs in active-matrix liquid crystal displays are outlined, and future applications of TFTs in computation and communications are discussed. Early chapters focus on the development, materials, device fabrication, and properties of TFTs based on amorphous and polycrystalline silicon. Later chapters describe new technologies based on organic and organic-inorganic hybrid materials. The editors are researchers with IBM.
