Kozierok (author and publisher of The PC Guide, an online reference work on personal computers) presents a guide to the most commonly used internetworking protocol suite, TCP/IP. In the guide he focuses on the nuts and bolts of how the protocols work while maintaining an emphasis on the present state of the art (including extensive coverage of IPv6). Maintaining a small-computer orientation throughout, the reference guide moves from an overview of TCP/IP and background information to lower-layer protocols and higher-layer application protocols. Coverage of applications is limited to the most important, "classic" applications and application protocols, such as email, general file transfer, and the World Wide Web.
