Jini is Sun's attempt to make transparent distributed computing a reality. This book, based on Newmarch's popular online tutorial, teaches developers how to take full advantage of the Jini framework. Starting with the basics of how Jini enabled devices join a Jini network and then how, after that, Jini enabled devices can use the Jini lookup service to see what the all the attached devices in a Jini network can do. After a complete coverage of the basics Newmarch moves on to complete coverage of how events and security are handled in the Jini framework. The last half of the book gives detailed coverage of many advanced topics that most books skim over. This includes how to use Jini with CORBA, transactions and remote events.
Author Biography: Jan Newmarch teaches in the Department of Information Science and Engineering at the University of Canberra, Australia. He is a well-known figure in the Java and Jini community and has served on numerous Sun advisory boards.
