Formation Badges of World War 2 is based upon a book first published in 1946 (by Gale & Polden of Aldershot) under the title Heraldry in War: Formation Badges, 1939-1945. Three editions appeared - in 1946, 1947 and 1950- in each of which small additions and amendments were made. Publication for the present work was taken over by Arms and Armour Press. The present volume has been completely revised and reset, taking note of corrections and amendments that continued research has brought to light over the years. It thus represents a completely new work, but based upon the previous volumes. This new impression of 1985 omits the colour plates of the earlier
printing; these now appear on the jacket. The author died in 1983, and so the preface remains that of the original edition
