Аннотация:
The incremental governance approaches that have been implemented during the last decades seem insufficient to respond effectively to the “super- wicked” and intertwined challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, resource depletion, and social injustices and inequalities. Illustrating the ur- gency of the matter, in August 2022, prominent Earth System, climate, and environment scientists published a paper in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences titled “Climate endgame: Exploring catastrophic climate change scenarios” (Kemp et al., 2022). The authors argue that there are “ample reasons to suspect that climate change could result in a global catastrophe.” They underscore risks created by tipping cascades “in which multiple tipping elements interact in such a way that tipping one threshold increases the likelihood of tipping another.”
