Instructors who use Behavior Analysis and Learning: A Biobehavioral Approach will notice a proverbial passing of the torch to the next generation of behavior analysts with the seventh edition. In 2020, the behavior science community was shocked at the unexpected death of David Pierce. He was a vibrant, creative, and productive colleague. Dave’s contributions to the experimental analysis of behavior (EAB), including a cogent development of an animal model of activity-based anorexia, were impactful. Many of these research endeavors were conducted with his dear friend and collaborator W. Frank Epling (1943–1998), an original author of this text. Further editions of this book will continue to owe a great deal to both of them, as well as to Carl Cheney, who was an author since the third edition. Carl also has made a lifetime of research contributions to EAB using proximately 20 different species of animals and has taught thousands of students over the years.
