Cardiovascular diseases have become the leading cause of death in India.
According to the state level disease burden published recently they contribute
nearly 20% of total mortality. Despite this they pose both a great challenge as
well as an immense opportunity to healthcare providers in the world. While
the survival has considerably improved, the biggest challenge in India is that
the disease occurs at younger ages imposing an unaffordable financial burden
to individuals and their families. In addition, comorbidities have emerged as
a major determinant of survival among patients with coronary artery disease.
