Название: THE IN-FACTOR MODEL. How the Internet can lead to Infidelity
Авторы: Heinz A., Briceno P.
Аннотация:
Men, and especially women, are inclined to break up their relationship when they feel strongly intimate and closed to someone else, even to a cyber friend on the Internet. Therefore, it is very important and relevant for all committed couples to understand what happens when their partners are involved in cyberspace; the changes in their sexual behavior and their attitudes.
It is hard to be totally aware of the many risks, and benefits, the Internet and cyber friends can bring to relationships since it is a relative new tool that we still are learning to manage.
The Internet is not inherently bad; it is like any other tool which depends on how it is used. While it is true that the Internet originally was not created to hock up people sexually, nowadays it does. Today, the Internet plays a crucial role connecting people, especially in emotional and sexual levels.
When it comes about infidelity, these amazing connections make the Internet detrimental to relationships due to its three features that we consider unique, which are Opportunity, Synchronicity/Speed, and Intensity. Let’s quickly review them:
1. Opportunity: The Internet opens the doors to hundreds of thousands of different people in a single stroke. People all over can find opportunities for sexual/emotional connections anytime from anywhere and right away from their own houses.
2. Synchronicity/Speed: Conversations through the Internet can take place in seconds with one or even more than two people at the same time.
3. Intensity: Internet’s virtual anonymity, easy disclosure, and affordability create intense emotional connections among users leading to deep intimacy and even perhaps, offline sexual encounters.
