Название: The Academic Job Search Handbook
Авторы: Mary Morris Heiberger, Julia Miller Vick
Аннотация:
The first version of this handbook was written in consultation with our
original Graduate Faculty Placement Council, an advisory group to the
University of Pennsylvania's Career Planning and Placement Service (now
Career Services). Its members contributed their vast experience to and
carefully commented on the document. For years faculty members have
generously shared their insight and experience at programs we have orga-
organized for graduate students. Dr. Janice Madden, former Vice Provost for
Graduate Education at the University of Pennsylvania (now Director of
Graduate Studies, Fels Center of Government and Professor of Regional
Science/Sociology/Real Estate), co-sponsored and was an unfailing sup-
supporter of these events, as well as a frequent speaker at them. Dr. Dwight L.
Jaggard, Professor of Electrical Engineering, and Dr. Walter Licht, Pro-
Professor of History, frequently and enthusiastically participated in our pro-
programs while serving as University of Pennsylvania Graduate Deans in their
respective schools. They sharpened our understanding and encouraged
us to continue to look for the commonalities in the academic experience.
It is impossible to thank all the other speakers here individually, but we
are well aware that but for them this book could not exist. Graduate stu-
students, postdoctoral fellows, graduate alumni, and junior faculty members
have discussed their own job searches with us; they have broadened our
awareness of the range of what may happen and increased our ability to
predict what is likely to happen.
