In 1953 the Fathers of the Church series published their sev- enteenth volume, comprising the homilies of St. Valerian and selected sermons of St. Peter Chrysologus, thereby making thir- ty percent of the authentic sermons of Chrysologus available to an English-speaking audience. In the half-century since that publication Dom Alejandro Olivar, O.S.B., from Montserrat provided significant advances for studies in Chrysologus by publishing a critical study of the sermons in 1962 and by pro- ducing a critical edition of them in CCL, volumes 24, 24A, and 24B from 1975 to 1982. Thanks to Olivar’s painstaking efforts, subsequent studies and translations in other languages have been made of these sermons.
