Название: Ecocriticism in Taiwan Identity, Environment, and the Arts

Аннотация:
Taiwan, an island society located approximately 100 miles from the southeast coast of mainland China, has long been recognized as one of the epicenters of international ecocriticism, the branch of environmental humanities scholarship dedicated to the study of human-nature relationships through textual analysis. While Taiwan celebrates its unique indigenous culture (indeed, there is a robust aboriginal community that plays an active role in politics, tourism, environmental stewardship, and artistic expression), it is also a cultural crossroads, situated offshore from mainland China and close (less than 400 nautical miles) to Okinawa, the southernmost Japanese prefecture. Indeed, Taiwan was occupied by the Japanese between 1895 and 1945 and continues to display visible influences of Japanese culture, such as the architectural design of National Taiwan University.
