The 11th International Symposium on Fundamentals of Computation Theory (FCT'97) was held in Krakow-Przegorzaly, September 1-3, 1997, in the
conference facilities of the Polonia Institute of the Jagiellonian University. This volume contains all contributed papers presented at the symposium, together with the invited papers by Georg Gottlob (Technical University of Vienna), Ming Li (University of Waterloo and City University of Hong Kong), Antoni Mazurkiewicz (Polish Academy of Sciences), Daniel A.
