The purpose of these notes is to give a brief and pedagogical account of the group geometric approach to (super)gravity and supcrstring theories. Full details can he found the book written in collaboration with R. D' Aurin. and P. Pre [1]; here we summarize the main ideas, and apply them to selected examples.
