In this book we aim to present at a level suitable for beginning postgraduate students the theoretical methods employed in studying the collisions of
positive ions (and, where convenient, neutral atoms) with atoms. Secondly, we hope that much of the text will be useful to experimental physicists who wish to be able to distinguish the assumptions made in different theoretical treatments of the same problem.
