Numerical simulation is a most important field of Science and Fngineering. Therefore, every other year, since 1973, the International Symposia on Computing Methods in Applied Sciences and Engineering, organized by INRIA, have gathered the best specialists in the world. Although the sixth symposium has been the continuation of the previous ones, the organizers have tried this time to emphasize on the very topics which are at the interface of numerical mathematics and computer sciences, such as parallel computing. It is clear that vector machines will completely modify the landscape of numerical simulation and will make possible the simulation of phenomena related ta turbulence, combustion, physics and three-dimension mechanics, etc.
