This text, formerly known as Nonclassical Physics: Beyond Newton's View, is written for the student who has completed a calculus-based introductory course in classical physics. Thus, it is appropriate for a course taught either in the sophomore year or the early part of the junior year. It will introduce the reader to a wide range of fascinating physics principles that have emerged since the lurn of the twentieth century. As technology advances and we study the things around us ever more closely, physics and other disciplines-engineering,chemistry, biology-will continue to draw nearer together,so a grasp of the principles of modern physics becomes more and more essential.
This text will enable students to apply these principles quantitatively in all
areas of natural science as weJl as to further study in physics.
