Differential Equations was held at the Instituto de Matemztica, Universidade
Federal do Rio de .Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, R.J, Brasil, from August 1-5,
1977.
other scientists in physics and engineering, with the principal lines of
modern research in such interrelated subjects so to afford stimulating
discussions leading to the investigation of new problems or reviving old
ones still open. Another aim of the Symposium was to attempt to assess
what the recent rapid growth of interactions between the two mathematical
subjects has accomplished and may accomplish in the near future.
