The wall dividing home entertainment from computers used to be solid and
unbreached. In recent years, it began to crumble, and then along came
DVD, which knocked an enormous hole in it. DVD enriches both sides by
bringing them closer together. Lamentably, each side brings to the other a
new set of problems and old, bad habits.
Just as CD-ROM is used for purposes as diverse as databases, multimedia,
software distribution, backups, document archiving, publication, photographic
libraries, and so on, DVD-ROM is used for all of that and more.1
