Аннотация:
This volume contains the collected papers summarizing the talks and posters pre- sented at the sixth annual NIPS conference (short for Neural Information Processing
Systems — Natural and Synthetic), held in Denver, Colorado, from 30 November to
3 December, 1992.
NIPS began initially as a small workshop in the early 1980s (see last year's
Preface) at Caltech with an interface between physics and computation. In particu-
lar, the associative and memory storage capabilities of a system of simplified com-
puting elements interacting in a network architecture led to an investigation of how
the general properties of systems of neurons in the brain might be analogous to the
system level properties of computational networks. Computational, mathematical,
biological, and psychological implications of such networks were hotly debated and
discussed.
