This book, Classical and New Inequalities in Analysis, is mostly about the classical inequalities and inequalities more recenlty created. The classical in-
equalities are those associated with the names, Gauss, Cauchy, Schwarz, Buni-
akowsky, Holder, Minkowski, Cebysev, Lyapunov, Gram, Bessel, Hadamard,
Landau, Bernstein, Hilbert, Hardy, Littlewood, P6lya, Markoff, Kolmogorov,
Stieltjes, etc. One might ask why another book on these inequalities. There are
several answers. First, there are many recent refinements of these inequalities
and connections between the various ones that have not been noticed before.
Secondly, many inequalities are proved over and over, mainly because mathe-
maticians are unaware of the previous history of the subject. It is our purpose
to address these issues by attempting a comprehensive study of the publications
devoted to inequalities.
