This book, and the underlying conceptual framework of earth systems engineering
and management, draw from many different disciplines. Accordingly,
I have had the benefit of discussions and input from many people from a number
of different communities over a fairly long period of time. I hesitate to try
to thank everyone, as embarrassing oversights are certain, but there are a number
whose contributions I want to recognize despite that risk.
