An International Conference on Analytical and Numerical Approaches to Asymptotic
Problems was held in the Faculty of Science, University of Nijmegen, The Netherlaads
from June 9th through June 13th, 1980
The development of the analytical asymptotic theory has been essentially stimulated
by needs of applied sciences such as fluid dynamics, diffraction theory, reactiondiffusion
processes, elasticity theory, quantum mechanics and so on. On the other
hand, pure aesthetics have also been a strong attraction for mathematicians and
theoretical physicists in the elaboration of this beautiful mathematical tool. The
introduction of numerical methods during the last decades became a new turning point
in the further development of asymptotic analysis.
