This book contains the majority of the papers presented at the fourth International
conference on Mathematics in Transport to have been held under the auspices of the
Institute of Mathematics and Its Applications. This took place at University College
London on 7-9 September 2005 and its timing coincided with Richard Allsop
becoming Emeritus Professor of Transport Studies at UCL. In view of his many
contributions to the mathematical and statistical analysis of transport systems over a
period that spans five decades and his contributions to each of the three previous
conferences of this kind, this one was dedicated in his honour.
