This volume of lecture notes is based on lectures presented at the Workshop
on Field Theoretical Tools for Polymer and Particle Physics within
the framework of the Graduiertenkolleg (college for graduate students) at
the University of Wuppertal. The workshop took place in June 1997. The
Graduiertenkolleg of the Theory Department in Wuppertal was founded in
1992. It is devoted to Field Theoretical and Numerical Methods in Statistical
Physics and Elementary Particle Physics. The workshop was addressed to
advanced graduate students who are in a stage of specializing on a specific
topic in their diploma or Ph.D. thesis. The topics of the lectures have been
selected in a way that the presented methods as well as the models have
applications in both areas, those of particle physics and of polymer physics.
The lectures may serve as some guide through more recent research activities
and illustrate the applicability of joint methods in different contexts.
Unavoidably, their style varies from rigorous to phenomenological and from
detailed to review-like. We summarize the main topics.
