Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship awarded to Dr Gregory (ECF40115) and an award
to both authors under the ESRC’s Research Methods Programme (H333250016).
Thanks also to Dr Alastair Pearson (University of Portsmouth) for permission to use
the cover illustration. This is taken from his research, and shows tithe rent charges
around Newport, in Pembrokeshire, in 1845.
