The first volume of this book was largely devoted to three main
fields of low temperature research : liquid helium, superconductivity
and magnetism; and the announcement was made that some of the
neglected subjects might be covered in a second volume.
In the present second volume due attention has been given again
to the same main fields, and in particular different aspects of the
problems of liquid helium have been considered. But also several
other subjects have been reviewed here, such as various non-magnetio
properties of solids.
No claim on completeness can be made, however. Important fields
lacking are the cryogenic techniques and the magnetic resonances,
for which it is possible to consult several other recent books and
review papers.
