The badge of office conferred upon the editor of Advances in Applied
Microbiology has passed from Dr. Allen Laskin to me. The change is not
a result of an untimely death, treachery, or any malignant circumstance;
it is a simple matter of time, change, and other pressures which are making
new demands on Dr. Laskin, while leaving me eager to undertake
the new challenge. In all candor, I enjoy writing more than editing, but
the task before me is suitably compelling. During his 8 years at the helm,
