The papers included in this volume were originally presented at
the Ninth Annual Bristol-Myers Squibb/Mead Johnson Symposium
on Nutrition Research held on September 11-13, 1989 at Robinson
College, Cambridge, England. This symposium was associated with
a "no strings attached" award to the Medical Research Council, Dunn
Nutrition Unit by the Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, and the choice
of topic was completely up to the organizers. It is our hope that the
original symposium and the contents of this book, by introducing
the reader to a number of novel techniques now available to nutritional
scientists, will lead to exciting new nutritional findings and to
an enhancement of academic excellence within our science.
