The last decade of semiconductor research has been characterized by a very strong interaction with the development of optoelectronic devices, and there
are no signs of saturation in this trend. The continued interest in electrical
and optical phenomena is not only confined to intraband transport processes
and optical interband transitions but also extends to combined excitations as
relevant for nonlinear optical response, optical response of photoexcited systems
and injection lasers.
