Through the elegant experiments he performed, Dr. Holtfreter demonstrated
that our understanding of morphogenesis can be improved
by studying it at the cellular level. His example and inspiration have
convinced developmental biologists that complex morphogenic processes
can be resolved into more simple ones, which can be separately
analyzed. The progress made by successive generations of scientists in
understanding morphogenesis confirms his faith in this approach to
analyzing the embryo.
