The "I World Congress on Paraconsistency" was held in Ghent, Belgium, in 1997. As a sequel, in 1998, the "Stanislaw Jaskowski Memorial Symposium" was
held in Torufi, Poland.
The "II World Congress on Paraconsistency" (WCP'2000) was held in Juquehy -
Sao Sebastiao, Sao Paulo State, in Brazil, from May 12-19, 2000, and was attended
by more than 80 people, from about 20 countries.
The conference was dedicated to Newton Carneiro Affonso da Costa, in honour
of his 70th birthday, and was organized by the Brazilian Logic Society and the
Centre for Logic, Epistemology and the History of Science of the State University
of Campinas, under the sponsorship of the Association for Symbolic Logic. Both
the conference and this volume are intended to recognize the value of da Costa's
scientific work, his logical creativity, and the importance of his role in the development
of logic in Brazil and Latin America.
