In the six years since this volume first appeared there have been remarkable
advances in the study of amorphous semiconductors. Paced by the technology of
solar cells, new science and new applications continue to flow from the hundreds
of laboratories active in the field. The field continues to expand rapidly beyond
its physics origins into the domains of chemistry, materials science and electronic
engineering.
This book emphasizes the physics of amorphous semiconductors with
emphasis on Si as prototypal, the most studied and the most applied. The
fundamentals are presented with the aim of being useful to all who would
study or use amorphous semiconductors.
