During the preparation of this volume the tragic death occurred of Willie Parker.
Professor Parker was a founder member of the Specialist Periodical Reports series
on Alicyclic Chemistry, a subject close to his heart. As Senior Reporter he presided
over its inception and the production of the first five volumes. The Reporters of this
and of the earlier volumes join with me in paying tribute to his dedication to chemistry
and the chemical community. He will be sadly missed by his many friends and former
cplleagues.
Volume 6 reviews the literature pub!ished during 1976. The format of the earlier
volumes is retained, with individual chapters on three-membered rings ; four￾membered rings ; five- and six-membered rings and related fused systems; medium￾and large-ring compounds ; and bridged carbocycles.
Professor Parker would have wished me to thank all those who contributed over
the years to the Alicyclic series; and I do so wholeheartedly
