After a year of internship in my depart￾ment, René Malek accepted my offer to
join the staff at St Vincent de Paul and
collaborate in the development of pediatric
surgery. He remained there until my depar￾ture. Since then, he has headed the
Department of Surgery at the Hospital of
Sèvres, and later ended his public career as
Surgeon at Robert Debré Hospital in Paris.
A large number of facial cleft cases were
referred to me as the successor of Victor
Veau. René Malek immediately took an
active interest in them.
