Topology is now included in Honours Courses in Mathematics in most Universities. This book is designed to meet
the needs of students taking such a course, and others who
wish to become familiar with the basic ideas and methods.
Its aim is to introduce the reader to the new ideas gradually.
For example, the concept of a topological space is
approached through a study of continuity in Euclidean
spaces and then metric spaces. Abstract or general
definitions are delayed until the reader is likely to be in а
position to appreciate their significance.
