The sixth Australian conference on combinatorial mathematics was held at the University of New England, Armidale, in August 1978. The organising committee consisted of A.F. Horadan, B. Sins and W.D. Wallis. The names of the participants are listed overleaf.
We were fortunate enough to hear invited addresses by six distinguished conbinatorists:
George Andrews (Pennsylvania State University); Roger B. Eggleton (University of Newcastle); Derek Holton (University of Melbourne); Sheila Oates Macdonald (University of Queensland); Don Row (University of Tasmania); Ralph Stanton (University of Manitoba).
This volume contains texts of three of the invited addresses and most of the contributed talks.
The orginising committee wishes to thank all those people who helped with the running of the conference, in particular we are grateful to those who chaired the sessions, those who refereea the contributions to this volume, and to the Vice-Chancellor and the Department of Mathematics of the University of New England.
