Although cardiotropin 1 (CT-1) was isolated using an in vitro assay system for cardiac cell hypertrophy, the expression pattern of CT-1 and pleiotropic activities suggest that it may have important functions not only in the cardiac context, but in extracardiac tissues as
well. The analysis of CT-1 knockout mice may give us further insights into its role in vivo.
